Sunday 09/25: Lake Geneva, Wisconsin
*** The above menu will take you to separate pages of pictures for each part of the trip.
Sunday we headed north for an overnight to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin where we stayed in the Jane Austin room at the Maxwell Mansion, a small boutique hotel.
Entering Wisconsin Sunday afternoon.
Stopping for lunch at the Pier 290 Restaurant in Williams Bay
Driving along the Lake Geneva shoreline.
Arriving at the Maxwell Mansion
The Jane Austin Room
Giving Sue smelling salts as she has become overjoyed with staying in the Jane Austin room. Or... was that me that was overjoyed and she was vexed because I was overjoyed?
Heading out to meet up with Chuck and Denise in the mansion's 1880’s Apothecary Bar - a tribute to the original owner, Dr. Philip Maxwell.
In the Apothecary Bar for some pre-dinner drinks.
We moved into the front sitting room so we could relax on the plush sofas.
We had asked about the mansion's famous subterranean Speakeasy Bar, and the bar tender set us up with one of the staff to show it to us as it was not open.
Chuck and Denise relaxing in front of one of the mansion's fire pits outside of their room before heading out to Barrique Bistro & Wine Bar for dinner. While we were there, the entire area got hit with a massive wind and rain storm. The water just poured down, and some of the wind gusts must have been around 50mph. But, by the time we left, the storm had blown through and everything was calm.
Back to the mansion for an after dinner drink.
Sue had gotten up long before I did Monday morning to explore and take pictures. When she got back, we took a long walk up to the Inspired Coffee Shop on Main Street for some breakfast, and then walked back along the shore to the hotel where we hooked up with Chuck and Denise for a wonderful hike along Lake Geneva's scenic Shore Path.
Before getting on the road to head back to Illinois, we had a wonderful lunch at Popeye's On Lake Geneva.
View of the main dining area at Popeye's.
