Saturday 09/24: Chicago, IL
*** The above menu will take you to separate pages of pictures for each part of the trip.
Saturday, Chuck and Denise drove us into Chicago for a helicopter ride over the shoreline, lunch at the outdoor patio of the London House, and then a wonderful dinner at Za Za Trattoria, in St. Charles, IL.
Graham works for Breeze Helicopters just west of downtown Chicago, and was able to get us a booking to fly over the skyline. What a neat view of the city that was! Would totally recommend doing that even if you're a Chicago native (which I actually am!) as opposed to just a visiting tourist.
Because we'd be flying over water, we were required to wear hip pouches that contained an inflatable life vest.
Chuck got this shot of Monroe Harbor where my dad took me sailing in our Penguin class sailing dingy, Ding-ho! when I was young.
Great picture of Buckingham Fountain that I used to sail past all the time.
Downtown Chicago on iconic Michigan Avenue.
Denise and Chuck leading the way to the London House where we had 1:30pm lunch reservations on their outside rooftop patio.
Me sauntering along Michigan Avenue with my long time custom CaneMasters cane, Janis, gaping up at 'ahll dem thall buildin's' as Sue presses ahead.
Arriving at the London House.
View of the Chicago River from London House outside rooftop patio.
The girls hamming it up after lunch on our walk to the Chicago Athletic Club.
Dining room at the Chicago Athletic Club. When I was about 13, a friend of our family gave me a couple of summers of gym and pool camp program access to this exclusive private club. He met me for lunch a couple of times in this restaurant, which at the time, was white linen table cloth, silver service, and china.
Drive by picture of Graham's apartment building.
