05/29/24: Boston Trip

Sue and I did an overnight in Boston, MA Wednesday 05/29/24 as she had an early Thursday morning appointment at Mass General in the Back Bay.

I knew that early morning Boston commuter traffic was brutal. Rather than getting up at 5:00 am, and fighting through all of that, I made reservations for Wednesday night at one of the hotels along Route 1 in Revere, MA we had stayed at before when flying out of Logan.

Good thing I did that as traffic Thursday morning was brutal. The projected 15 minuted drive into the Back Bay from the hotel actually took over 40 minutes because of a windy rain storm that swirled all around the coast.

Even the drive down from New Hampshire Wednesday afternoon was slow, but that was just because of the 'normal' commuter traffic. And to think I used to run even worse than that for years from New Hampshire down along the parking lot MA Route 128 tech beltway.

Since it was pushing 4:30 as we got onto Route 1 we decided to stop for dinner before heading to the hotel. The restaurant, DeMaino's Italian Restaurant, in Revere was close to the hotel, and would be a nice escape from the almost stock car drive down 95 we had churned through. Great food and just what you'd expect to find in quaint neighborhood Italian eatery.

It was still pouring when we left the hospital around 11:00am Thursday morning, and traffic getting out of town was awful. Once out of all that and up through Sagus and onto Route 95 North, we thought we'd pull off of 95 in Seabrook and take the coastal route 1 north until we could head down onto the shore road 1A.

I thought Sue would enjoy driving along the coast even in the rain to unwind from the last couple of busy days. I pulled off into the parking lot of Seabrook Beach as I thought Sue would enjoy getting her feet in the sand and surf. She did as the pictures show!

But the wind blown rain was aggravating, and the ocean water cold, and so I drove her up to BG's Boathouse Restaurant on the Sagamore Creek on the far south side of Portsmouth, NH for an early dinner. We had so much fun just sitting out in the enclosed outside heated deck sipping our drinks, and eating a nice simple meal.

But it was getting on to mid afternoon and we knew The Beau Dog would be looking for us to get our asses back home. Gail had come by Wednesday afternoon after we had left, to do a stay over to take care of him. We had called her earlier to let her know that we were well on our way home so that she could head back home.

Beau was all wound up when we got home; we could hear him barking from the driveway. And, of course, Sue had to tease him as she headed for the house. He totally ignored me, but was all over Sue.
