Sunday 12/17/23 we had severe rain storms up here on the mountain. Friends on a mountain on the other side of the valley from us measured just over 6 inches of rain at their house, and I'm sure we got as much here. It was epic.
It was so bad that the water racing down the brook was so powerful that it sent heavy rock boulders, broken tree branches, and a mass of leaves crashing against the culvert, plugging it up with silt and leaves, and flooding the entire yard.
I had the folks that handle my landscaping come by 12/29/23 to take a look, and the verdict was grim. The force of water had just completely blocked the 10 inch drainage pipe that runs from the brook, under the grass, and out into another brook at the other side of the property by the 'chicken coop'. The force of the water, and weight of the debris it pushed appears to have damaged the entire drainage field to the point where it needs to be replaced. Terrific.
