For her birthday, I took Sue up to the Eagle Mountain House in Jackson, NH for a Fall foliage trip. It was just an overnighter, but we really enjoy the area.
We headed out Thursday morning 10/19/23 after dropping The Beau Dog off at the kennel. We were in no hurry, so we took a long, leasurally, and scenic drive over 75 through Milton and then onto 153 through Freedom and Eaton, making numerous stops along the way.
We had particularly wanted to take some time in Jackson to drive around looking at The Pumpkin People, an amazing display put on by so many of the businesses in Jackson. It's actually become quite famous.
However, due to the economy and pandemic, it hasn't been very actively participated in for a few years. This year, however, Jackson put on a full court press to revive the event, and it was so enthusiastically picked up that other towns like North Conway, and Conway decided to get in on the fun as well.
We really enjoyed locating different displays from a map of locations we found in one of the stores. Perfect timing as we arrived at just after 3:00pm at The Eagle Mountain House where we were staying.
After settling into our room, I grabbed the backgammon board, and Sue and I went out side onto the wrap around veranda. While she set the board up, I went into the Eagle Landing Tavern and got glasses of wine for us.
Though we had fleece jackets on, as the sun began to drop toward the mountain behind us it became just a little too chilly. So, we packed up and moved inside to one of the game rooms, sitting at a table close to a warming fire place.
We had such a wonderful dinner in the Carter Notch Room that we couldn't resist sharing one of their deserts. That, however, totally stuffed us, an so we decided to get in the car and drive down into Jackson village to see some of the other Pumpkin People displays lit up.
After morning coffee and a great breakfast of eggs, bacon, and home fries, we headed for home on Friday. We took a different route than we came. We followed 113, to 25 through Moultonborough, and down 109 to Wolfeboro.
Great trip; love North Conway and Jackson and the entire surrounding Mount Washington Valley.
