06/04/23: Mia To Concord Planetarium

On Sunday 06/04/23 Sue and I took Mia to the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center to their planetarium presentation of 'The Great Spirit Bear Chase'.

I had picked her up Saturday evening to spend the night with us, and then after breakfast Sunday morning we headed over to Concord. Dark clouds and sprinkles followed us all the way over there, though broke long enough for us to dash from the parking lot to the Discovery Center.

The event was "Created in partnership with Chief Paul Pouliot and Chief Female Speaker Denise Pouliot of the Cowasuck Band of the Pennacook and Abenaki People, produced by Film Unbound and with technical support by SSIA Technologies, and written by Paul Pouliot, this 100% New Hampshire-made show tells stories of the night sky from the perspective and cultural traditions of the indigenous peoples whose ancestors first settled in the Granite State over 12,000 years ago."

The presentation was really interesting, and short and simple enough for someone Mia's age to get the idea behind the story. After the show was over, we spent an hour or so exploring the exhibits at the Discovery Center, and then stopped into TGI Fridays for lunch before heading for home.

It was pretty chilly in the house as it had been raining all day so Mia and I got a fire going in the wood stove. That took the chill out of the air really fast. And then Sue surprised Mia by handing her the Native American Rain Stick we had bought for her in Cherokee, NC when we were on our week long trip to drive the Blue Ridge Parkway.

When we were at the Discovery Center Sue had bought this freeze dried simulated ice cream sandwich. It was okay; nothing to jump up and down about, but great to try and experience that sort of thing.
