We were able to grab Mia for a short overnight visit before she heads back to school after a short break. She seemed to have a great time, mostly with Sue walking Beau and then doing some craft projects with her. But she did want to help with the cooking and have me work with her on backgammon practice.
Sue told Mia that maybe the stick she found was magic, and so here she is waving it around making magic potions, probably for Beau.
Chilling our on the screen porch while dinner finishes up being made.
One of the projects Sue was working with her on was writing some story thoughts down. She came running in to read two of them for me, and they were really pretty insightful.
One of Mia's magic incantations must have worked because this butterfly fluttered right into her hands out in the backyard.
Mia loves to play "Find It" with Beau, and so Sue got the gear out for that so they could play. 'Find it' is a nose work exercise that Sue uses to wear Beau's brain out as walking him 2 miles plus a day doesn't slow him down one bit most of the time. He needs his brain fatigued.... This does it.
Mia hid the containers around the back yard and barn. They have just a small piece of food in them, but we took Beau to nose work classes, and he just loves finding it!
Mia is pretty fascinated with backgammon, and every time she comes over, she asks for me to work with her. She enjoys watching me and Sue slamming the checkers around the board, and thinks that's pretty cool. I just have her using 1 checker to learn how to count pips on the dice, and translate that into moving around the board so she gets the idea of what the object of the game is. This time she surprised me as to how much she remembered. Pretty soon she'll be ready to use 2 checkers, and then move into full games. No pressure; only if she wants to.
