09/10/22: Foxwoods, CT Trip

After walking Beau and taking him over to the kennel Saturday morning 09/10/22, we headed off for a few days to the Foxwoods casino in CT to see Robert Plant and Alison Krauss in concert.

Jill met us at the hotel we were staying at in time to catch the 5:30pm shuttle to Foxwoods. We figured we'd wander around for awhile, and find a spot to have dinner before heading to their Premier Theater to see the concert.

The concert itself was just amazing and so worth coming to see. Robert Plant, of course, is an icon in the even more iconic band Led Zeppelin. I had heard some of the individual music he'd done a few years ago, and was really impressed with its depth. To combine that talent with Alison Krauss was spectacular. They did such soulful renditions of 3 of the old Led Zeppelin songs that it was fantastic to see how he has embraced this very different musical form.

Sunday, we met Jill for morning coffee, and then headed off to Stonington Borough, which I just loved. We wandered around there at the park on the point by Dubois Beach, and then on to visit Mystic Seaport again — we had visited before in 2012 on our 06/14/12: Earth, Wind, and Fire, and Vacation to Newport, RI trip.

For dinner, Jill met us at the Buon Appetito Ristorante & Pizzeria not far from the hotel, and we had a great time. The food was really good, and the service impeccable. That's worth coming back to just to go there again!

It was an early call in the morning, though, to pack up and hit the road home as it was about a three and a half hour drive.

Since we couldn't check into the hotel we were staying at until 4:00pm Sue drove me around to see the different areas. This shot was in the really pretty town of North Stonington, CT. We walked around both here and just up the road in a really pretty small public park with a beautiful gurgling stream running thorough it.

So, Chuck's new eCommerce business Clark & Covet is up and running, and so we had bought one to try out on our trip. I wrote a review for it that you might enjoy reading: "My wife and I used our vacaCovet for the first time on a weekend trip to a major concert event. Though the hotel we stayed at was very clean, it was really reassuring to have the protection of the vacaCovet because of the transient nature of a hotel located that close to a concert venue. And the fabric of the vacaCovet was smoother, and most definitely more luxurious than the sheets on the bed. It looked so nice on the bed that my wife humorously tried to craft an elephant head from one of the towels to make it look like a real vacation spa room! Though the elephant didn't work out too well, the vacaCovet did! What a terrific idea!"

Sue took this really different view from inside the main Foxwoods entry area.

Jill took this picture of us at this great inside waterfall. It was really interesting to walk around before picking a place to eat.

Jill had never been to see a Hard Rock Cafe before, and so that's where we went to eat.

What an absolutely neat place the Hard Rock Cafe is.

We had about 45 minutes before the next shuttle would arrive to take us back to the hotel, and so we stopped off here for a night cap.

Sunday morning we met Jill here at the Junk Java Cafe for coffee. We sat outside in the enclosed patio area and just had a nice chat before we headed off for the rest of our day.

Sue wanted to show me the beautiful Misquamicut Beach in Westerly, RI. I can only imagine how packed this must be during prime vacation periods.

And we just had to return for ice cream at Sue's favorite Mystic Drawbridge Ice Cream parlor,

After finishing our ice cream, we crossed the street to watch this charter yacht pull away from the docks.
