06/07/22 Kennebunk Art Class Trip

Sue and I headed off Tuesday the 6th for an overnight Kennebunkport, ME art class trip.

We had wonderful weather for not only the drive up, but also for the entire stay and trip back home. The art class ‐ actually a water color painting class ‐ was a lot of fun, and we had some really good food and seeing the beautiful Kennebunkport and Arundel areas.

We stayed at The Colony Hotel in Kennebunkport, and walked the short distance that afternoon to the Nonantum Resort where the class was held outside by the river.

After the class was over, we walked back to The Colony and had almost a full diner as a late snack, before heading for bed. It was a really stormy Wednesday morning when we got up, with sporadic sheets of rain pelting against the windows as we sipped our coffee with their tasty open breakfast.

But by the time we hauled our bags out to the car for the drive home, there were just light sprinkles.

On the drive, we stopped at The Old House Parts Company in Wells, ME. What a terrific store! Sue had stopped in here years ago with Sheina Parker when she and her husband Carl, who is a karate master student of mine for over 30 years, visited while he and I went to a karate event.

Rather than have lunch in busy Kennebunkport, we drove up to Cape Arundel and ate at Pier 77. We had a wonderful late lunch in a table by the windows overlooking the river. It was a 'late' lunch that was more our early dinner because the water color class started at 5:00pm and ended at 7:00pm.

After lunch, Sue and I walked over to a small park along the river. Though windy, the sun was warm, and you just couldn't beat the views!

Waiting on the grounds of the Nonantum Resort for the start of our water color painting class. Sue and I both had coats as the class was held outside by the river and we knew it would get chilly. Not only did it get chilly, it got cold, partially due to a sharp breeze coming in off the water.

Instead of paying full attention to her water color work, Sue was busy with her camera capturing the beauty of the late afternoon sun through the clouds.

This is the Colony Hotel's gate opening to a narrow, almost overgrown rocky path leading down to the beach. After the art class at the Nonantum Resort, we walked back to The Colony, checked out the beach, and then went into their tavern for yet another wonderful meal (actually just a mah-vou-loose hamma-burgerler) and glass of wine.
