05/08/22 Mothers Day Hike And Dinner

For Mother's Day, after a nice scrambled eggs with sausage breakfast, I went with Sue to walk Beau along the Mad River again.

That's such a nice area, but this time we didn't venture up onto the ridge. But he got a nice run, and seemed to have enjoyed being out with us.

When we got back to the house, Sue parked in herself in a lawn chair in the sun out by the barn chatting with Lucas while I took about an hour to do the prep work for dinner: a rather complicated, 4 major component meal.

I was fixing Pork Chops in a rosemary, garlic, cumin, and red wine sauce with sides of paprika steamed cauliflower, and thyme spiced mushroom risotto. Fortunately, I didn't open the bottle of Louis Jardot Pinot Noir I had bought until we went up on the hill out back to play some backgammon before cooking dinner, or the complexities of the meal prep work would have no doubt rendered dinner to the "Welllll... that was niceeeee" level.

The water was really surging over the rocks as we walked along River Road to the bridge.

Even sitting in the sun up by the screen house it was just a little windy and chilly, and clearly the start of our 'interesting' Black Fly Season. We sipped a glass of wine, and had some snacks, but decided to move inside to play backgammon rather than spend most of the time swatting little bugs or listening to Beau snapping at them as they buzzed around his head.

And dinner is served!
