On a bitterly cold 01/15/22 Saturday morning, Sue took me for an early morning photography adventure to the ocean.
Because of the extreme temperature changes we've had recently — with many in the below zero range — Sue knew that sunrise over the ocean would present the opportunity to photograph the rare occurrence of dense sea smoke.
Because she wanted to get to Odiorne Point State Park in Rye, NH by 7:00am, I was out of bed at 5:00am
And man was it cold! Not only cold with the temperature at —5 degrees, but the wind was brutal with the wind chill effect making it —15 below!!!
When we got to the park, Sue picked her spot and got ready to shoot. Though we only had to wait about 5 minutes, it was so cold we thought our jackets would freeze us into statues. She got some absolutely stunning pictures, and then: we-were-outta-there!
She thought a drive south along the shore road to Rye Harbor would be nice; and it was. In places the surf pounded against the rocks sending frosty spume into the the now bright sunlit sky. She took a couple of pictures, and then we continued south to Bass Beach.
Amazingly, there were surfers out in the water! She walked out onto the sand, took a picture of them as well as a picture of The Beau Dog hanging out the window, and scampered back into the car. She proclaimed that was it for outdoor adventures, and we headed back home over Route 111 through Greenland and then out around the backside of Pease International Airport.
Since we were out that way, we decided to go through Newington and out to Great Bay Marine. Sue took a couple of pictures there, and then we hit the Spaulding/Route 16 back north for home.
The order of the day as soon as we got inside was to stoke up the wood stove!
