To celebrate her 70th birthday, Sue wanted to just take a long driving adventure not only for the foliage, but also to visit her friend Lisha in Webster, NH and take a walk through Canterbury Shaker Village in Canterbury, NH.
It turned out to be a beautiful day, though the foliage this year is just running really, really behind and may not be as vibrant as it could be due to all the really wet weather we had earlier this Fall.
Her day started with a spectacular sunrise when she and Beau drove up to the ridge way before I even got up. Beau got a nice walk because he wasn't coming with us on our 'adventure'.
We took mostly back roads to get over to her friend Lisha's in Webster, NH who owns the Milkcan Corner Farm. We had met her on our 07/16/21: Drive To Webster, NH. Sue had bought some great day lilies from her, and I saw one of her hand made baskets I couldn't resist getting; it's on the top shelf on one of my library bookcases. Such a great visit, and so much fun just looking at all of her new baskets, and projects going on. Had to get some of her homemade jams while we were there this time as well.
From Webster, we drove south to the Canterbury Shaker Village in Canterbury, NH, had a packed lunch and coffee we had picked up on the way in the parking lot, and then headed out to just walk the grounds.
On our last visit (05/28/20: Canterbury Shaker Village Visit) we had so much fun walking around the large property, that we wanted to check it all out again in the fall foliage. Back then, the place was basically shut down because of COVID-19, but we were happy to see they were back to holding guided tours again (which we took on our 10/18/17: Visit to Canterbury Shaker Village).
But we just wanted to walk the property on our own again rather than take one of the tours. You'll note if you look back at those previous visits that many of the pictures we took then, we did again this time. What can I say? It's just a really pretty place to take great pictures to remember it by.
We spent about an hour walking around until Sue, in her photographers quest to take that one last picture of the day, tripped over a branch as she was making her way through a stand of trees at the side of a field, and down in a heap she went into a pile of leaves. That would have been fine, but she really banged her elbow on a rock, and called it a day.
Sues lovely birthday sunrise present.

This is my shot of the sign to Canterbury Shaker Village.
For you city folk: coooooowssssssssss. Moooooo....
Sue got this amazing contrasting shot across the field from the pond.
Sue loudly cursing the rock she hit her elbow on. You can't see it because it's hiding in great fear under the leaves.....
And off she stomps after her rock encounter.
