Sue and I were so happy to welcome Chuck back for a visit. I drove over to the airport in Manchester, NH to pick him up from his 3:00 pm flight in from Chicago, and had a great chat on the way over to the house. For dinner, Sue had made a delicious homemade lasagna that we enjoyed with what turned out to be a wonderful bottle of Omen Cabernet Sauvignon.
Though he slept over at Marissa's in Dover, he was with us Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, and then spent all day Sunday and Labor Day Monday with Colin, Marissa and all going out eating and boating. He rejoined up with us for a late brunch Tuesday, and then I drove him back over to Manchester for his early evening flight back to Chicago.
We missed him before he even got into the car to head for the airport.

Chuck snapped this selfie of us after he got to the baggage claim area.
When we got home, I pointed out the just now early change in the leaves of one of the trees behind the barn.
The grass had just been mowed, and there was this super fresh smell that just filled the air.

Me taking a picture of Chuck taking the picture of the above picture.
Only task I had to do other than to keep the wine glasses full was to toast up some garlic bread for dinner.
We just had the best time!

South Main Street in Wolfeboro was busy with Labor Day Weekend visitors and traffic.
Down at the Wolfeboro Town Docks.
The smiles are because we're headed to Kitty's Cafe for lunch. We were totally surprised to find that our old friend Jason had bought Kitty's not long ago. Jason had managed the restaurant at The Lodge At Smith Point where we had gathered together for dinner for the first time, and who we shared our story with.
Heading out for dinner at the Gilmanton Pup. We figured Chuck would really like it, and he did. And Sue and I got to try different entrees than we had when we had brought Lucas here Thursday evening 08/19/21.
Saturday 09/04/21
Chuck liked his Saturday morning coffee so much he had to take a picture of it.
Flash forward many, many hours and it was time for me to pour out our wine for the evening. When we were in Wolfeboro, we had stopped into the liquor store to pick out a wine for the evening. Chuck spotted a bottle of The Prisoner that we snatched off the shelf as quickly as we could. The Prisoner is a '...Zinfandel with the unlikely mix of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, Syrah, and Charbono'. We had had it with he and Denise on our first visit out to see them when they took us to the 'Sixty Four' on The River Walk in Naperville, IL. For $50, it was just perfect for the steaks I was fixing for dinner.
I had just cleaned off the salt after letting the steaks brine, and they are looking marvelous.
It was such a beautiful afternoon that we all headed up the hill to sit in the chairs, and sip some wine.
Sue coming up the hill with some snacks with Beau leading the way.
Okay, the sun is about to set o'er the yard arm, and it's time to get the steaks going so I'm off down the hill with bottle of wine held tight.
Notice how Beau was right with Sue as she came up the hill, but has totally ignored me on the way down. Not my dog, for sure. He's all Sue's....
Won't be long now til we eat as Sue's freshly picked native corn is just about ready.
Dinner is served! I had browned the steaks in a large cast iron Lodge skillet, and then slow cooked them in the oven over a bed of fresh rosemary — a Tim Ferriss recipe, actually that I've made several times now, and it's perfection.

Chuck spent Sunday and Monday with Gary, Colin, Swayzie, Mia, and Marissa.

Everyone pulled their boats up on the beach, and celebrated Sarah's 30th birthday. But it turned out to be far more than just a party. Because of Colin's immediate leap to action that brought everyone else into play, they ended up saving the life of a young boy who had got swept off the beach by a strong rip current.
I wanted to share this letter I sent to my son Colin because, as I've mentioned to others about it, "...we should all aspire to the thought we would do the same."
