07/10/21 Kayaking On Gilman Pond

After heavy thunder storms yesterday, Saturday 07/10/21 broke out into a bright sunny day so we went kayaking on Gilman Pond in Alton, NH.

The pond continues to become overgrown with water lilies and other vegetation, but it's such a nice and quiet area that Sue and I both enjoy just paddling along the shore.

She took just a ton of pictures that I thought we'd be out there all day. My knees got baked in the hot sun, and I've been putting lotion on them since. I never expected the sun to be so bright because of the fairly constant cloud cover. But it heat me up pretty good.

We had a nice lunch that Sue had packed up for us, resting our kayaks up against a fallen tree in the shade of other surrounding trees hanging out over the water from the rocky shore of the pond.

After hauling out, we took a drive up the hill, passing a house that we had seriously looked at to purchase before we choose our 1775 antique cape up the ridge on the other side of the valley. We had decided against it because it didn't have the streaming sunlight that we both wanted. But it was a nice house, with some land out back.

From there, Sue wanted to check out an antique shop, and flower gardens she had heard about. They're currently only selling flowers, but won't have the antique business they're relocating here into a barn they're currently building on the site.

By the time we got home and unloaded the kayaks and gear, it was time to settle into some backgammon out on the screen porch. The heat of the day had dissipated, and there was just the gentlest of breezes blowing through the trees.

*** Sue took all of these great pictures, though some were my requests - such as those with my favorite pickerel weed. Yeah, I know it's technically a weed, but it's such a pretty weed.... And if you didn't know the difference, you might think it was lupine....
