05/08/21 Mia Comes For A Sleepover!

Saturday morning 05/08/21 Sue and I drove down to Dover to pick up Mia for a sleepover.

We thought we'd give Marissa a break before Mother's Day to relax with Gary and maybe go out Saturday evening. We had a great visit with her!

We picked her up at one of the Dover Parks fields after she had finished a Lacrosse practice in the morning. On the dive back, Sue stopped the car on one of the mountain roads to show Mia a small sheep farm. There were about 20 of them clustered in front of the shed so she got a good look at them.

Beau was so excited to see Mia when we got home, and hardly let her alone while she dragged her gear up to the bedroom.

Since Beau hadn't been out for a long walk yet, we all piled into the car, and drove over to walk the Farmington section of the Rail Trail. Mia had actually suggested it as she really enjoys hiking out to the waterfalls.

When we got back home, and had lunch, Sue and Mia headed outside with Beau to kick the ball around, and then build a garden trellis out of sticks that She and Mia had picked up in the woods out behind the house.

Temps dropped by early afternoon, and the girls were in to start work on a project to cut out paper flowers and paste them on a card as Mia's Mother's Day gift to Marissa. Even I got into that mix, and we had a lot of fun.

Not much to do for dinner; just a seasoned pork roast that needed to be put in the oven that we had macroroni and cheese with. After that, we finished up the movie Ratatouille that I had started for Mia earlier.

After Sue fixed a breakfast of multi berry pancakes made from a recipe calling for muffin mix, we drove Mia back down the her house. A short, but nice visit!

On the way home, we stopped at the store so I could shop for the special Mother's Day dinner I'm making for Sue tonight: butter seared scallops and prosciutto with asparagus and yellow onions and a bottle of Josh Sauvignon Blanc. It'll be a wonderful thing.

But, as soon as we rolled up to the house and unloaded the groceries, Sue was into high gear, got her gardening apparel on, and out into the dirt she went to play. I knew I wouldn't see her until it was time to open the wine. And I didn't.

We were glad to see so much water flowing over the falls as that helps prevent a drought like we had last year.

While Mia was watching the falls from her angle, Sue got this wonderful shot from just down stream.

Mia and Sue had gathered some long sticks for a garden trellis Sue wanted to put together.

But first, Mia had to stuff her face with a chicken salad sandwich Sue had made for us all.

But then — back to help Gramma Sue with her project.

And then it was inside where Sue helped both Mia and me to make a Mother's day card for Marissa.

There was glue involved, and so we put papers down on the table. But Mia didn't drop a bit of it, or get it all over her face. She's really growing up!

Mia became fixated with the movie I put on for her: Ratatouille. Sue hadn't seen it either, and so the 3 of us enjoyed watching it together Saturday evening.
