05/02/21 Busy Sunday

The day was forecast to hit 69, and even though it was still below 50 from overnight, Sue and I took our breakfasts out onto the screen porch as the start to what would be a busy Sunday 05/02/21 for us.

We had spent most of yesterday (Saturday) morning cleaning the winter gear off the porch, and bringing in the summer stuff before then climbing up and down the ladder to clean most of the windows. It was a busy day, and so to move into today, Sunday, we took a pause to have a quiet breakfast for the first time this season outside.

But before getting back to the window cleaning, we took Beau over for a couple mile walk along the Mad River. It was really pretty, and the river is still flowing swiftly over the rocks, though not quite as much as it had. Since I was last there, we had a couple of dry spells. But this week coming is supposed to be several days of rain. Nice to get out and walk along the river in the spotty sun today!

And then it was back to cleaning the rest of the windows!

We took a brief break late morning for Sue to run me down to meet up with Colin and Swayzie. Colin had worked on the car I'm currently driving — Sue's old Toyota as she's now driving her new 2017 Subaru Impreza — and Swayzie drove it following him pulling his boat as they were headed for a day on the lake.

It was great to see them, but they were on a rush to get some time on the water as the sky was not looking as advertised.... We went back to the house, had some lunch, and went back to finishing up with the windows.

It took a little longer than we thought to finish up the windows, and then straightening the furniture back into position. The sun had popped back out as we wound things up, so Sue suggested we take our glasses of wine, and sit in the Adirondack chairs up the hill by the screen house. But, as the sun began to drop toward the tree line, the wind sharpened, and the air began to get just a bit chilly — it was supposed to drop into the mid 40s overnight.

We got another glass of wine, and sat in the living room playing a few sets of backgammon until it was time for me to get going on dinner. I was making a chicken and mushroom parsley infused Alfredo recipe I had found online, and Sue had suggested a side of cardamom steamed broccoli.

Because the sun hadn't dropped below the tree line as yet, it was only just after 6:00pm, we decided to eat out on the screen porch. Well, the broccoli came out great, but I was not that happy with the Alfredo sauce. Sue thought it was fine, but I just found it sort of bland. I'll have to find a better recipe as if the sauce would have been better, the dish would have been really good.

Before continuing with the windows, Sue and I changed up some of the summer porch table chairs we had put out with some that we made a quick trip out and bought at a friend's yard sale that looked so much better. But we just love our 'distressed' rocking chairs, which offer a relaxing view of the back yard.

Me — charging up the hill to where Sue, and now The Beau Dog were. I was trailing behind as I had to go back inside and get a ball cap because the sun was so bright where we'd be sitting.
