Hike at Beede Falls 04/08/18

Sue grabbed Beau and me Sunday morning 04/08/18 to drive up to Beede Falls in Sandwich, NH.

Current Picture

Beau had soooo much fun running around in the snow drifts.

Even though it's well over an hour to get there, she had wanted to see it and to take some pictures. So, off we all went!

Sandwich itself is just full of history, and is explained in terrific detail at the Sandwich Historical Society discussion of the the falls. The whole area is spectacularly beautiful.

Though you can take the Notch Road around to the other side of Beede Falls, we drove in over the Diamond Ledge Road to the Meade Base Trailhead area, and hiked in from there because the Notch Road is closed in winter. In fact, we pulled into a small parking area there to ask directions of some folks who were getting out of their car to hike. They pointed down the road to where we needed to go.

I'm glad we asked them because it would have been an awful hike up the Notch Road through the deep snow still on the ground. The Bear Trail that we walked from the Meade Base Trailhead parking area was only about a half mile. Though the snow in the woods was several inches, enough folks had been along the trail that it was mostly packed down, but we had to be careful of the underlying ice.

You can see the falls through the trees in the background.

There is a sign by the bank that explains all of the ecological steps being taken to preserve the area's vegetation.
