Saturday evening 03/17/18 Sue and I held
The Great 2018 St Patrick's Day Backgammon Tournament And Beef Stew Wonder Party.
Happy St. Patrick's Day!
Not only were we celebrating St Patrick's Day, but also 1 year from starting to move in here on March 13, 2017. Fortunately, the weather had been clear for the last couple of days, though it has been really windy and cold. I think the sun has absorbed over 4 inches of snow!
Earlier in the day, Sue and I took Beau on a drive over to Pittsfield and Northwood to check out a couple of antique shops. One of the shops had advertised a couple of bedside night tables that we had been looking for, but they weren't the right size. However, we did find a great custom made narrow wooden shelf tower to hold our CDs, an ornate fireplace screen for the library, and a neat pot hanging fixture we thought might work in the kitchen for some of our cast iron pots.
Every time we got out of the car, however, Beau just went crazy barking. He is so used to going in the car with Sue to various places in the area to take long walks in the woods that he's just not hearing being left in the car. What a pain in the ass he was.... We're going to have to work with him on that!
We grabbed burgers at Wendy's on the way back home as it was getting late. Sue wanted to take Beau out for a walk so he didn't feel too distraught, but helped haul in some wood from the wood pile before she headed out. I got a fire going in the wood stove, and then started on my food prep work.
I was fixing Beef Stew with Dark Beer and Paprika. Sue had already made up a special desert for us, a Mojito Pie. I'm glad I got an early start because the stew had to simmer for a couple of hours, and the prep work took a lot longer than I thought it would. That might have been because I was enjoying sipping a Killian's Irish Red while I worked....
I amazingly got caught up with my work, and so Sue and I had a chance to sit down and get a couple of sets of backgammon in before the party started. But we both took a hammering from Tim House as he quietly sipped his Killian's. He got me caught on the bar both games we played, and he just wiped me off the score card. He and Sue traded wins until the 3rd game. She had flipped the cube on him to a double, but he edged her out by 1 checker for the win!
Enough of that! The stew was ready, and so we sat down to eat earlier than planed. That was nice because we got the movie of the night going early as well. I chose the really well done 2007 Matt Damon movie The Bourne Ultimatum, which was the 3rd installment of the series.
Another successful backgammon dinner party!
