The Great 2009 Midsummer Nights Dream Backgammon Tournament And Risotto Stomp 07/18/09
Perfect planning! Errrr... that would be luck with the weather. We've had a full week of real summer, and now in perfect harmony with that to end the week I held: The Great 2009 Midsummer Nights Dream Backgammon Tournament And Risotto Stomp.

I fixed a chicken risotto according to an old traditional recipe, and it was superb. As sides I did sauteed carrots in white wine, garlic, and oregano as well as green beans steamed in a parsley and rosemary broth.
I was surprised at how good the simple, traditional risotto is in comparisson to the more elaborate attempts that I have made in the past. My friend Linda came from such a traditional Italian family and had mentioned how off the wall my version was. I took that as a challenge and off-loaded the burdon of coming up with the recipe to her. I'm convinced. Nice...
Movie of the night was the original Alien, and that was just a great, great time seeing that again.

5:00 and time to get this par-tay going! I had just started laying out the ingredients and chopping when Rick arrived and snapped this picture.

It didn't take long for some of the others to come. Snacks were in the kitchen and so the mob remained kibitzing the chef.

Gary and Rick square off for the first game of the evening.

Tim arrives. That's Marissa in the background taunting him to get on the boards.

Tim squares off with Linda.

Marissa pauses for her fans.

Marissa took this series of pictures of the chef working his magic over the hot stove while everyone else was screaming over the boards in the other room.

Inspecting the risotto pot.

Chicken side preparation.

Linda and Tim going at each other.

Gary and Rick in another game.

Yeah, this stuff takes time to get right...

At Marissa's insistence.

Once wasn't enough. Is Marissa pretty, or what! Outshines the FOP, that's for sure.

The chef's work is never done.

And a little more olive oil....

I have no idea where the specks came from on the lens, but, no, it's not snowing....

Nice smile!

And finally it's time to eat! And then, the movie of the night: Alien!
