New Years 01/01/07

Happy New Year from Marissa, Peter, and Colin!

Unlike Christmas where it was warm and sunny, it had finally snowed about 3" Friday and so it looks a little more like winter now. But, I woke up to sleeting rain this morning as I greeted in the New Year.

Rick Downs joined myself, Marissa, Colin, Courtney, and Adrian for my little New Year's eve party.

They started arriving around 4:30 and we got right into the plates of turkey kielbasa and halipaneo cheese that I put out.

I was running a Harry Potter movie at the time, and all but Rick abandoned me as I began preparing dinner. I was fixing my special Rock Cornish Game Hens with a great sauce consisting of yogurt, sherry, wine, shallots, fresh tarragon, and a few other ingrediants. I also fixed up mashed Maine potatoes in herbs, and a great bunch of green beans sauted up in white wine, shallots, and herbs.

I had a nice inexpensive bottle of Michael Joseph Shiraz wine to sip as I worked away. I had a great time with everyone there, though it did take me from 4:30 to 7:15 to get everything ready. According to everyone, it was worth it. But hey, I always have a good time regardless!

While the great cooking event progressed, Marissa put on the movie My Super Ex-Girlfriend that she had rented. After dinner we ran the movie Step Up that Courtney had brought, and then we finished the night off with Terminator 3 - pausing briefly for about a half hour to listen to Dick Clark bring us into the New Year.

Rick Downs joined me with Marissa, Colin, Courtney, and Adrian for my little New Year's eve party. As you can see, I put him right to work peeling potatoes. He loved it.

Marissa heckling as Colin and Adrian wrestle for position on the couch, an activity that seemed to consume them for most of the evening. I think in the end, Colin lost.

Marissa reaching around Colin and Adrian with her new 7.2 megapixel digital camera that I had got her for Christmas. I think she's trying to see how many pictures she can get on that thing. A lot; probably more than she'll take tonight because I got her a 1 gig memory expansion chip and I think that's about 1000 pictures...

Though none of this group helped in the kitchen, they didn't seem to have much problem downing the food when it came out!

This is Rick glad that the potatoes are all peeled and he can now just watch!

It was a pretty bleak New Year's morning that greeted me when I rolled out of bed around 8:30. Sleeting rain all day long. But fitting for New England. I love it.
