The Great 2005 Thanksgiving Backgammon Tournament And Gobbler Bragging Rights 11/19/05

Saturday night Nov. 19th I hosted The Great 2005 Thanksgiving Backgammon Tournament And Gobbler Bragging Rights! Knowing that the holiday season for the next few months is going to have everyone busy, there were just a few of us to celebrate.

We had a great time, and - because we started later and didn't have a big dinner to contend with - we got lots of backgammon in. So much backgammon, in fact, that - not to name names: but, some of the participants were "backgammoned out"! Now, how could that happen? Actually, I think they just wanted to see Escape From New York, the movie of the night.

And we did play a long time - some of us started around 6pm and were still going strong around 9:30 when I sensed that patience was wearing thin. And the scores were wild - just out of the park. And some of us just threw concrete dice all night. Heck, I couldn't hit the floor with my dice if I threw them down, that's how bad it was for me. And Marissa - gee, she just couldn't get a decent throw at all.

Finaly, in despiration, she kept throwing the doubling cube regardless of her position and egging her opponents on to double her back and then she'd double them back. When asked if she wanted a bullet to put in the gun, she just said that since she wasn't going to win any games for the night she was going for the worst scoring record. Success: she lost 213 points and loved it. That's about the time we all knew we better get the movie going...

Marissa in one of her many games against Rick Downs. These two have been at each other's throats for literally months.

Current Picture
Checking the action out between them during yet another game between them. Rick can't believe it...

Current Picture
Colin looks mystified but he was high score for the night. We'll get you later, "...my pretty and your little dog, Toto, too..." And he was tired and wasn't paying much attention to what was going on anyway. But the dice hit him pretty good all... night... long...

Current Picture
Tim House can't believe those two were wrapped up in another game. "Give me a chance!"

Current Picture
Not sure who won here, but these two were bad talking at each other most of the night. Something (again...) about "...next time".

Current Picture
Marissa and Colin had a few pretty spirited games. I say "spirited" only because there was no blood on the floor. It's a brother / sister thing... And here, Rick Downs looks a little perplexed on this move against Tim House - or, is that just a ploy, Rick, to put him off his guard?

Current Picture
And Colin and I got to play a few games, which was nice as I don't think I played him at all at the last party. I won. Who's the man, now... Smile: you're on camera, Colin...
