Peter's Brother Alan's Visit 12/03/04

My brother Alan came for a long awaited vist. It had been a couple of years since we had gone down to visit he and Abbie in Towson, MD so we really enjoyed the time with him. I only got a few pictures, but they give a good flavor for the visit. One isn't shown, though: you have to know the secret to find it...

I left work early and picked him up on the way home Friday afternoon at the Portland International Jetport in Portland, ME. We had a nice long chat while I did up an off the cuff Chinese stir fry.

Colin and Marissa came over Saturday afternoon, and we all went out to pick up my Christmas tree at the famous Tuttles Red Barn in Dover - not far.

We threw it in the back of Colin's truck and he and Marissa headed back to the condo while Alan shopped for herbal tea. By the time he and I got back to the condo, the kids were almost done decorating!

We had a nice chat, headed off for 4:00pm Mass at St. Joseph's, then to the video store to rent the nights movie - which turned out to be Radio (Friday night we watched Alan's pick Prisoner of Zenda and Sunday my pick: Wall Street). Anyway, after picking out the movie I took everyone out to dinner to Uno's. Then home to watch the movie.

Sunday, Alan and I just hung out and chatted. He showed me how to cook eggs with just water - amazing how good they were! We had several cups of Imus Ranch Coffee and just relaxed. Then I flew into full gear at 4:30 and fixed a low fat Italian recipie from one of my cookbooks that I have been studying. It came out super and with a bottle of 1975 Robert Mondavi Winery Pinot Noir from my "stash" it was a grand evening to say the least! Well, we did top off the evening as I mentioned with my movie pick: Wall Street. How much better can it get!

I dropped Alan back off at the Portland Jetport on my way into work Monday morning. Short visit but so very nice. Now, I just have to plan to go down and see he and Abbie next year. I love the waterfront district in Baltimore, so that's always a nice side trip as well. One of them just drops us at a nearby commuter train station and half hour or so later we're dropped off right at Camden Yards a short walk from the waterfront.

Are these guys brothers, or what! Alan is 19 years older though I was not a "mistake". I guess our folks got such a good result the first time around they figured they'd do it again. Boy! Were they surprised...

Does this look like a "line-up" shot for a couple of suspects, or what?

Here's Alan getting ready to go out on The Great Christmas Tree Procurement Adventure.

Marissa putting the finishing touches on the tree. Her jacket reads "Dover Lacrosse" She had ornament detail; Colin did power and lights. I watched and approved the specifications.

Done with perfection and just the right size for my new home! Thanks, guys! Dad loves you!

Marissa gets a big kiss from Alan for her efforts.

Alan pretending that he actually did some work in getting the tree up. Nice try, bro but we are wise to your act.

The "Job Well Done" picture. I suppose I should have used the timer on the camera so I could have been in the picture as well, but it never dawned on me because I was getting so much grief from the cheap seats I forgot. No respect for the supervisor...
