The Great 2013 Talk Like A Pirate Backgammon Tournament And Cuban Black Bean Stew Surprise 09/21/13

Saturday night 09/21/13 Sue and I hosted The Great 2013 Talk Like A Pirate Backgammon Tournament And Cuban Black Bean Stew Surprise!. Though a small party, we all had a great time. We started out with a new rum drink concoction that Sue had found; very pirate like!

Not only had Sue finished making a great pineapple upside-down cake by the time the party started, I had the stew in the oven baking by 4:00pm. Sue had found a recipe for Cuban Pork and Black Bean Stew that had sounded absolutely interesting, so my task starting at 3:00pm was to get all of that ready.

By 4:15, Sue fixed us up a couple of her rum drinks (called 'sex with the captain'; hey, it's in the book that way!), and we went out on the deck and started playing backgammon. As folks started to arrive, Sue made more rum drinks, and we pulled the stew out of the oven to check on and to stir. You could smell the spices (cumin one of the more pronounced) all through the house.

Because everyone got backgammoned-out early, we ate around 6:30pm and were able to finish up the movie of the night, the solid 2010 drama The Ghost Writer, by 9:30pm. Another relaxing backgammon dinner party!
