Earth, Wind, and Fire, and Vacation to Newport, RI 06/14/12 - Part 2: Thursday

Thursday morning, we drove the short distance from Groton over to Mystic, CT to meet Sue's daughter Jill at McQuades Marketplace for breakfast. After breakfast, we drove to Haley Farm, and while Sue and Jill walked the trails for awhile catching up on their lives, I caught up on some reading.
From Haley Farm, we went back into Mystic to the Mystic Aquarium where we enjoyed a couple of hours of wandering through both indoor and outdoor exhibits. After the museum, we parked in downtown Mystic and took a walk. Sue had always talked about the Mystic Drawbridge Ice Cream, so we just had to stop there for an ice cream lunch. We opted for that rather than what would have been too heavy of a meal had we stopped just up the street to the famous Mystic Pizza.
But then it was time to drive up to Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, CT, about 25 minutes north of Mystic. What a sight as we came around the bend in the road and the hotel came into view! Wow! Is all I can say.... Sue got a great shot out of our window after we got into the room, and then another one just as the sun was going down later.
We went down and wandered around the casinos for awhile before going back up to the room to change for dinner at Todd English's Tuscany. This is just a magnificent place with the towering Taughannick waterfalls crashing down behind the exterior bar and lounge area. Food was outstanding, as you would expect from one of the country's most respected chefs.
After dinner we headed over to the arena to see Earth, Wind, and Fire in concert. What a show they put on! An awesome evening! But even though we were really beat, after the show we went back into the casino for a little while before heading off to the room.

We would have liked to have stopped into the famous Mystic Pizza, but neither one of us were that hungry. It was enough that we saw it - and have this tourist shot to prove it!

This is the view from the hotel's upper lobby looking down at Todd English's Tuscany 'outside' patio lounge and dining area. It takes some looking at, but all that 'stuff' in the back ground is a rock waterfall!
