Fall Foliage Trip 10/16/10

Sort of on the spur of the moment, I took Sue up to New Hampshire's White Mountains 10/16 to catch the end of the Fall foliage season.

We drove up early Saturday morning, going Rt. 153 as it is so beautiful this time of year. After getting into Conway, we headed up West Side Road all the way through to Rt. 302, and then down south on Rt. 16 a short hitch to grab 16B so that I could take Sue up over Thorn Hill Road into Jackson.

We had lunch at The Eagle Mountain House and then headed off to Sawyer Road off of Rt. 16 in the Crawford Notch area. What a beautiful little road that was, going back what seemed miles under a blanket of foliage.

After hiking around there for awhile, we headed back to the Eagle Mountain House to check in, grab some hot cider, and sit out on the huge wrap around deck. Though crisp, it was nice sitting out there, playing some backgammon, and just smelling the freshness in the air.

I had made dinner reservations for us at The 1785 Inn, but before we left I had a 6 month anniversary present surprise for her. I had bought an Algerian Love Knot for her, just like the one I had pointed out to her that Vesper Lynd had worn in the James Bond flick Casino Royale (2006) we had watched a couple of weeks before. Charles and Alan took great care of us for a very memorable experience.

Sunday after breakfast at the hotel, I took Sue down to see Diana's Baths. Even though she had grown up and lived for most of her adult life in the White Mountains, she had never been there. So, it was a great treat. I also found out she had never seen Echo Lake, so we stopped there for about an hour. She went crazy with her camera; I had to drag her back to the car. Great fun! And, a great trip!
