The Great 2009 St. Patricks Day Backgammon Tournament And Irish Dinner Scrum 03/14/09

What would St. Patricks Day be without a backgammon dinner party? Had to do it. Just had to. So, 11 of us got together and had a wonderful time playing backgammon, eating my corned beef and cabbage dinner, drinking Killian's Irish Red, and then watching the movie of the night, The Dark Knight.

I began the party by popping a bottle of Killian's at 4:00pm sharp and beginning with The Great Chopping of the Vegetables Passion. And though there was no charge for this event, only Rick showed up early to make it an official party. Though I can have a party for just me, most people frown on conveying that sort of distinction on a one person deal. So, it was nice that Rick came and made it official. But that was just fine with both of us.

Rather than just plain old cabbage, I had selected a huge head of red cabbage. It was a great hit, and I think I'd use that again anytime! But it was awhile before the meal would be ready, and much Killian's to drink...

Others followed shortly after, but I was stuck in the kitchen for four hours cooking. Well... okay, I had a couple of Killian's, and had a wonderful chat with Colin and Linda Williams while the others battled over the boards, sometimes filtering through to see how the meal was going or to grab more snacks.

The movie of the night, The Dark Knight was almost better in Blue-ray here than I remember it when we all went up to Hookset, NH to see it on the IMAX screen there. Blue-ray is the nuts... just the nuts.
