Movie Night At The Garrison 01/10/09

Another spur of the moment deal here! Late in the week I decided to hold a Saturday Movie Night At The Garrison that featured a Kill Bill Festival of both Volume 1 and Volume 2. As absolutely stupid as these movies are, they are cult classics - as are most of Quentin Tarantino's (Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, in particular) - they are all uber-violent but rich in texture. How could we go wrong? Couldn't, just couldn't.

After spending a long day of manuscript editing, I popped a can of Coors Light at 5:00 pm, and got the party started just as Linda was coming up the walk; she brought a great German chocolate cake that we gobbled down between Kill Bill Volumes.

We got into some heavy screamer backgammon as others arrived. I guess it must have been because of the full moon and pending storm that everyone got into the spirit.

This is the way we like 'em: invective threats and a constant stream of trash talk. This very well could have been deteriorated into physical confrontation, but the pizza that I had ordered about 6:00 pm arrived. This calmed the evil spirits, we ate, and then finished off the last of the games before starting the first Kill Bill Vol. 1 around 7:30. Once the movies started, it was all bets off for the next several hours. It was just a scream! No one can have more fun than we do.

My brain was pulverized from the movies so I just slept in Sunday morning. Once I did roll out of bed and fire up the coffee pot, I was hard at work on my editing until about 3:00 pm. It had been snowing really hard since the middle of the night, and we must have got another six or eight inches dumped on us. Before going to the store food shopping, I went out and shoveled off the back deck. I hadn't done it since the last storm so it took me awhile to clear off as there was a foot or so piled up out there.

Peter's Sunday Party For One featured a main course of ginger root stir fried chicken and mushrooms with thyme, complemented with a stir fried and semi-steamed cauliflower in a sauce of cumin and other ingredient mix I can't remember (and no it wasn't because of having too much wine...). I also stir fried a mix of snow peas, ginger root, and sweet red pepper in a tamari, olive oil, and Saugivon Blanc sauce, and finished off the meal with a very non Chinese parsley and sweet pea rissoto - well, I hate plain white rice so this was a nice twist for a base to pour the ginger root chicken mix over. I finished things off with The Movie of The Night - The Duchess which was just what I needed to cap off this really enjoyable weekend.

I'm just happy I won my set, and can sip my beer, kibitz with disdain and abandon.

Now it's Tim and Linda at it.

Rick is also glad that he can remain in the background as the battle surges across the room - across the very cosmos, even... and Beyond, as Buzz Lightyear said.

But... you can only hide so long and then you gotta step up to the table. Do you think Linda has him, or what? Tim thoughtfully remains silent on the issue - or is that just because he's stuffed his mouth with a slice of pizza?

Current Picture
Linda just hammered Rick and Tim as they tried to play their set. She wanted to get on with the Kill Bill Festival!
