The Great 2008 Cinco de Mayo Backgammon Tournament And Arroz Con Pollo Mexican Fiesta 05/03/08

Notice was short, but the party wasn't! I missed last year for some reason and when someone asked me what I was doing for Cinco de Mayo, I about had a fit because I totally spaced out about it!

I fixed Arroz Con Pollo, a Mexican chicken casserole dish, in celebration. I had fixed that two years ago and it was a great success. It was even better this year! I amaze myself sometimes - not bad for a city boy... I may make that a regular dish.

Steve brought vast quantities of Mexican Beer and I rented the 4th in the Die Hard series with Bruce Willis. Of course I got it in Blu-ray, we cranked up the surround, and had a hell of a time.

Can't start the food prep work until you have a beer! Steve arrives and we toast the evening with two kinds of Dos Equis beer - the Ambar that I had, and he was drinking the Larger version. By the way, Dos Equis got its start in 1900 by a German, Wilhelm Haase, who emigrated to Mexico and started brewing what was first called Siglo XX - which is where the dos (two) equis (x's) come from.

Rick pauses for the camera, but is ready for some backgammon.

The chef cutting stuff up. You know, I don't care what it is that I'm fixing - could be a simple pork chop - but it always, always seems to take me an hour and a half. But then, how much more fun could a human expect to have? Gotta love it...

Current Picture
Starting to put it all together to go into the oven for twenty minutes. Note in both pictures that beer is at the ready.

And that's what we're talkin' about!

Rick approves of Bruce Willis on the new 46" screen.
